Children use a range of sources, including the recollections of people alive at the time. They consider the reasons for and results of key aspects of the war.

About this unit
In this unit children learn about the reasons for and results of the changes in British life since 1948. Children investigate in depth one aspect of change in British life, eg population structure, popular culture, work.
They will develop their historical understanding of the period, including the characteristic features and diversity of popular culture, make links between changes both within and across the period, and apply their skills of historical enquiry to a study of the recent past.

TUDOR TIMES
National Curriculum - Britain and the wider world in Tudor times
Significant individuals and events:
· Henry VIII, Thomas More and the break with Rome;
· Francis Drake and the Armada;
· The reign of Elizabeth and the roles played by Mary Queen of Scots and the Earl of Essex;

During key stage 1 pupils learn about people’s lives and lifestyles. They listen and respond to stories and use sources of information to help them ask and answer questions. They learn how the past is different from the present.
During key stage 2 pupils learn about significant people, events and places from both the recent and more distant past. They learn about change and continuity in their own area, in Britain and in other parts of the world. They look at history in a variety of ways, for example from political, economic, technological and scientific, social, religious, cultural or aesthetic perspectives. They use different sources of information to help them investigate the past both in depth and in overview, using dates and historical vocabulary to describe events, people and developments. They also learn that the past can be represented and interpreted in different ways.
